Volunteers Needed

The Sussex Bat Group has been approached to attend the following upcoming events. You don’t need to be a bat expert in order to help, just have a keen interest and bags of enthusiasm. All the events involve talking to and dealing with members of the general public.

The Group has equipment and tools to help run these events, so if you are interested please contact Ryan Greaves, Events Co-ordinator: events(at)sussexbatgroup.org.uk

Let's spread the word about what magnificent creatures bats are!

Floral Fringe Fair, Bignor Park, West Sussex. 19th and 20th May 2012 10am-5pm
The group have been invited to take a stand at this great two day fair, hosted at the newly renovated Bignor Park private country home. This is very special place, located in the rural triangle between Petworth, Arundel and Pulborough. The fair will aim to encourage wildlife friendly gardening, so will host many of the major wildlife charities as well as a number of specialist nurseries. But it will also have contemporary crafts, woodland products, and many local food producers including a "sausage and bacon sizzle" and a beer tent!

If we get enough volunteers we can book ourselves a place. We will mainly be promoting the work of the group, talking to the public about bats and hopefully raising a bit of money. As always you don't need to be an expert, just bring plenty of enthusiasm! It really is the more the merrier, as it means people can take a break to look around and enjoy the fair. If you can only do one of the two days, or even just an hour or two not to worry. Any help would be massively appreciated. If you are interested just let me know and I'll be in contact when I get any more information.

Monkmead's Wood, West Chiltington
We have been contacted in regards to giving a bat talk and walk to the local Monkmead Wood Vounteer Group. The contact, Amanda Apps is West Chiltington's Parish Councillor, Tree Warden and is looking for someone / a pair to give a short talk about local bats, their plight and survival tactics to the group before they start off on their walk. She is looking at no more than a 30 minute session at the beginning of the walk. If possible it might be worth taking along a few captive bats to show as well.
A date hasn't been firmed up but last year they had the walk at the end of September. If you can take the lead in this please contact Ryan who will pass on the contact details.
